to support the ceasefire efforts between Israel and Palestine. United States Secretary of State Anthony Plinkin announced his intention to visit the Middle East region.
In a tweet on his Twitter account, Plinkin said: "At the request of President Biden, I travel to Jerusalem, Ramallah, Cairo and Amman to meet with the parties to support their efforts to consolidate the ceasefire."
He added: "The United States has engaged in intensive diplomacy to end hostilities and ease tensions."
The White House and the United States Department of State confirmed that on Monday the Secretary of State would leave for the Middle East to meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders under a ceasefire that followed the most violent fighting in years between Israel and Hamas.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Blinkin's visit to the four cities would run from Monday to Thursday.
Plinkin will first head to Jerusalem where he will meet with Israeli President Raufin Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gaby Ashkenazi and other senior Israeli officials.
President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, Prime Minister Mohamed Ashteh and other senior officials of the Palestinian Authority will meet in Ramallah.
Plinkin will then go to Cairo to meet with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
He concludes his trip by stopping in Amman to meet with Jordanian King Abdullah II, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
