Diplomatic sources have confirmed that the United Nations Security Council has called for "full" respect for the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians.

The ceasefire came into effect Friday, and the 11-day war left more than 250 people dead - the vast majority of Palestinians - and caused widespread destruction to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

However, clashes between the Israeli army and the Palestinians erupted again in the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, following Friday prayers, after two weeks of similar events, causing the clashes between Hamas and Israel to explode.

Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement on Friday night, after Egyptian mediation and international pressure, following mutual rocket attacks on both sides of the border.
