Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that work was currently being done to "stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people" in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, thereby engaging in a serious political process, stressing that peace "cannot be achieved without Jerusalem."

In a recorded address to the emergency session of the Arab Parliament on the Israeli escalation, Mahmoud Abbas added that "to engage in a serious political process would be a clear international reference, leading to an end to the occupation of the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem."

Abu Mazen renewed his commitment to the Arab peace initiative adopted by successive Arab summits since the Beirut summit in 2002.

The Palestinian President said: "We are students of peace and not of war, but at the same time we cannot overreact to any of the rights of our people and our nation, particularly in the city of Jerusalem."

He stressed that "there is no peace without Jerusalem because it is the eternal capital," stressing "the prosecution of the perpetrators of crimes against the Palestinian people."

In the election file, the Palestinian President stressed that efforts to hold general elections would continue: "We will conduct it as soon as the reasons that led to its postponement are removed, that is, when we are certain that we will conduct it in all the territory of the State of Palestine and, of course, at the forefront of the city of Jerusalem."

It also reaffirmed its readiness to form "a Government of national consensus that is committed to international legitimacy and that is internationally acceptable."

At the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the emergency session of the Arab Parliament, chaired by Speaker Adel Al-Assoumi, was launched to discuss the Israeli military campaign against the Gaza Strip and the violations of Jerusalem.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Abu Gheit, will participate in the meeting, where he will address those developments and the mechanisms for addressing the tense situation.
