The Turkish Parliament approved a resolution stating that the US President's statements about the Armenian allegations about the events of 1915 were invalid in the country's official gazette.

Last week, Joe Biden described the events of 1915, when the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire lost their lives during the "difficult circumstances" of World War I, as "genocide."

At the meeting of the Grand National Assembly yesterday, Tuesday, the resolution signed by Speaker Mustafa Sintop was put to a vote.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Good Party and the Nationalist Movement Party voted for it, while the People's Democratic Party (HDP) voted against it.

The resolution, which rejected and strongly denounced the statements of the President of the United States, was approved.

Turkey's position on the events of 1915 is that the killing of Armenians in eastern Anatolia occurred when some sided with the invasion of the Russians and revolted against Ottoman forces. The subsequent transfer of Armenians caused many casualties.

Turkey objects to the depiction of these incidents as "genocide," describing them as a tragedy in which both sides have suffered casualties. Ankara has repeatedly proposed the establishment of a history committee to examine the case.

In 2014, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then Prime Minister and current President of Turkey, expressed his condolences to the descendants of the Armenians who lost their lives in 1915.
