Former U.S. state spokeswoman Morgan Ortagos has revealed what is waiting for President Joe Biden, should he lift sanctions unrelated to Iran's nuclear program.
She stated that the Donald Trump administration had imposed sanctions on the Iranian regime on overwhelming legal grounds that Biden could not overcome, and that Biden would be subject to opposition from Congress, should he decide to lift the sanctions against Iran.
On what sanctions are inconsistent with the nuclear agreement, and whether President Biden could remove all sanctions, even those not linked to Iran's nuclear programmes, Ortagos said:
If the president decides to remove the sanctions, he will face considerable opposition within Congress. During Trump, many of the sanctions were related to human rights violations.
She pointed out that some sanctions related to the Central Bank of Iran and national oil companies were politicized and therefore politically possible.
The former United States State spokeswoman, Morgan Ortagos, stressed that if Joe Biden decided to lift the sanctions, here the issue of sanctions was not related to Iran's nuclear program, but to human rights violations, support for terrorism and interference in presidential elections.
The US sanctions against Iran number more than 1,500 are related to various issues, including support for terrorism, interference in US elections, human rights violations and Iran's nuclear program.
