The Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Kosachev, considered that the election of Joe Biden as US president provides an opportunity to restore dialogue between Moscow and Washington on limiting strategic weapons.
Commenting on the results of the US Electoral College vote today, Tuesday, in which Biden was declared winning the presidency, Kosachev said: “The most important thing today is to extend the START-3 Agreement (the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Agreement between Russia and the United States), because time is short and the decision is not It must be taken before late January ... but it is not unlikely that it will be important for Biden - and his professional diplomatic team - to return to the achievements of the previous democratic administration, which considered - and rightly so - the agreement on limiting strategic offensive weapons as its major achievement. " .
The Russian parliamentarian affirmed his country's determination to make every effort to achieve this goal.
