French President Emmanuel Macron said today, Thursday, that "we must defend the sovereignty of the countries of the European Union," referring to Turkey,

This comes after the spokesman for the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, confirmed that the language of threatening sanctions will not work with Turkey, calling on the leaders and leaders of the European Union countries to avoid imposing sanctions on Ankara.

Kalin said that "Turkey pursues a foreign policy based on the principle of the primacy of the human being," stressing that "the language of threatening sanctions will not work with Turkey."

He pointed out that "his country wants to open a new page with the European Union, and to achieve tangible progress in Ankara's membership talks in the Union."
