Some types of cancer may appear as a result of subtle mutations in the genes that a person can inherit through the father and mother.

This was indicated by the head of the cancer laboratory at the "Blokhin" Cancer Center, Dr. Anna Stroganova.

According to Stroganova, there are a few dozen genetic syndromes that lead to gene mutations. Among the most common are ovarian and breast cancer.

The Russian doctor said in an interview she gave to the "Linta.ro" website: "Lynch syndrome" is also one of the most common and dangerous genetic diseases. It often causes colon cancer, uterine body cancer and stomach cancer.

She explained, "If a man receives these suspicious genes, it is not unlikely that he will develop lung, prostate or pancreatic cancer, but this possibility is less than the risk of breast or ovarian cancer in women."

She added that men may carry mutations in the mentioned genes, but they are less susceptible to them.

Anna Stroganova explained that the chance of inheriting these mutations is 50% from both the father and the mother, while this does not mean that those who carry them will inevitably develop cancer.
