The European Commission has given the green light to a deal to acquire 300 million doses of an experimental vaccine against Corona virus developed by German companies BioNTech and American Pfizer.
Today, Wednesday, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed that the deal concluded with the two companies provides for the export of 200 million doses with the possibility of selling another 100 million doses of the vaccine to the European Union, stressing that the European Union hopes to start vaccination with the vaccine in all its parts quickly.
For his part, German Health Minister Jens Young suggested that the European Union will receive the vaccine in the first quarter of next year, expressing his hope to allocate 100 million doses of it to Germany.
The deal will go into effect after the competent authorities in the European Union have approved the safety and efficacy of the new vaccine, which Pfizer announced last Monday that its effectiveness is more than 90%.
And the European Union has previously concluded three deals that provide a total of about one billion doses of anti-Corona vaccines, and is continuing to negotiate with other companies.
