The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States is raising awareness of a new virus, which causes respiratory symptoms similar to "flu" and "covid". The infection has led to a number of vulnerable U.S. individuals being hospitalized this spring.

The "human metaneumovirus" human Metapneumovirus or "hMPV" is accompanied by common symptoms such as cough, sore throat, runny nose and fever, but it is a different virus from "flu" or "covid", it was found - at the peak of its spread last March - that about 11 percent of virus samples were positive, a figure about 36 percent higher than the standard peak of seven percent.

Concern is growing with the rise of cases of the "HPV" virus this spring, especially that the infection can cause dangerous complications in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, in addition, there is currently no vaccine available to protect individuals from the worst effects of this virus.

Although the "human metaneum virus" may not be widely known, it is the second most common cause of respiratory tract infection in children, after the Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (which targets the small bronchi in the lung, and causes pneumonia especially in infants under one year of age). Blood tests indicate that the majority of children have been exposed to the virus before the age of five. According to John Williams, a pediatrician at the American University of Pittsburgh, HPV is often considered "the most important unheard-of virus".

Researchers in the Netherlands first discovered the virus in 2001, and testing it outside medical facilities is still uncommon. Many people are often unaware of the infection with the "HPV" virus, or they may not be aware of it. According to the" Centers for Disease Control and Prevention", the estimated incubation period in those infected with it, varies between three and six days, and the duration of the disease is usually similar to other respiratory viruses.

Due to the lack of means of protection against the virus, a sharp rise in the number of cases of infection with it, can have dangerous repercussions on people's health. Dangerous cases can be caused by bronchitis or pneumonia, but since HPV is widely recognized as a threat that recurs every year - along with other viruses such as "influenza", "respiratory syncytial virus" and"covid" - there is hope that drug manufacturers who have produced anti-covid vaccines will be able to intervene and create a vaccine for it.

At the same time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States recommends that doctors conduct a test for patients with respiratory symptoms to find out if they have a "human metanomavirus" infection, especially in the peak seasons, winter and spring, specifically in temperate climates.
