With great efforts from the Ministry of Health in Damascus, large quantities of cholera vaccine were secured and distributed to the governorates of northern Syria where the disease appeared, including al-Hasakah governorate, where 395,423 citizens are targeted with the vaccine.
The health authorities in Syria launched a "sub-national" campaign for cholera vaccine in the areas of the epidemic in the countryside of Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Hasaka.
Unlike the "Corona", whose vaccines faced reluctance by the Syrians, the health centers were flooded with civilians asking to vaccinate themselves against the "cholera" that spread to their areas as a result of the exceptional environmental conditions they live under the American and Turkish occupation, the continued interruption of drinking water for many months, the significant decrease in the level of river runoff and the dependence of the population on special tanks for water transportation.
According to the United Nations Children's fund "UNICEF", a shipment of two million doses of oral cholera vaccine for use in the immunization campaign arrived in Damascus at the end of last November.
According to the World Health Organization, climate change has led to an "unprecedented" outbreak of cholera, the largest and deadliest worldwide this year.
Since the outbreak was announced on September 10, the cumulative total of confirmed infections in Syria has reached 1,627, while the cumulative total of deaths has reached 49 deaths.
On the 15th of this month, Syrian Health ended the cholera vaccine campaign in Aleppo countryside, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, and the campaign was extended for ten days in Al-Hasakah Governorate.
The Syrian Ministry of Health announced that more than a million people of different ages were vaccinated with the oral cholera vaccine during the campaign launched by it.
The ministry explained that more than 50 percent of the target population has been reached in the governorates most affected by the disease
