The Majestic Princess, set off from New Zealand , carrying 4,600 passengers on board, as well as crew members, and during the second half of the ship's 12-day tour, Margaret
Fitzgerald, president of the company that manages the ship's Cruises, said that the ship had about 800 coronavirus infections among its passengers, when it docked at Sydney Harbor in Australia.
Fitzgerald explained that most of the cases either had no symptoms at all, or had moderate symptoms.
"The crew members will assist all the injured by providing private transportation or accommodation until the isolation period for each of them ends," she added, noting that the ship will continue its journey to Melbourne, Australia.
Asked about the comparison between this ship and its predecessor two years ago, Ruby Princess, which was under the management of the same company, Margaret said, "since then, as a team, we have learned a lot about the coronavirus".
This is reminiscent of the outbreak of virus infections, aboard the Ruby Princess, in 2020, when at least 900 passengers were infected, of which 28 died.
This comes at a time when cases of the virus are increasing in Australia.
New South Wales has seen 19,800 new infections in the past week alone.
