A source said today that a research team in China has developed a new antibody that they say could neutralize the omicron mutant of the corona virus, after synthesizing the components of two antibodies produced by human immune cells.
Although these antibodies were independent, they were ineffective against Omicron, but the composite version was able to neutralize them, according to researchers from Fudan University in Shanghai.
The researchers described this as a surprise discovery developed "with God's grace," and stated that the new treatment could put humans "one step further in the race" against the corona virus.
The researchers, led by Professor Huang Jingye and working at the National Clinical Research Centre for Respiratory Diseases in Guangzhou, developed eight antibodies in a short period of time by creating naturally produced immune cells.
The Panel was shocked by their success, as the technology they used was not intended to be deployed against Omicron but to treat another infectious disease, although Genji did not specify what other virus the researchers were investigating.
Biracial antibodies are capable of neutralizing past strains of the virus, such as delta, as well as treating severe acute respiratory syndrome, thus limiting the ability of the virus to spread.
The Panel identified their work and findings in a paper entitled "Combating Omicron mutants with non-Omicron neutral antibodies. The research has not yet been peer-reviewed, and Chinese scientists hope that the new approach to combating the epidemic will help health officials "deal with changing events by adhering to the fundamentals, in this way of producing a man-made antibody," the researchers suggest.
