The WHO Regional Director for Europe, Hans Cluj, has confirmed the possibility of an end to the Corona epidemic in Europe, because of the properties of the Omicron mutant that could infect 60% of Europeans by March.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe said that "Omicron has launched a new phase of the epidemic and the European region is likely to be nearing the end of the Corona pandemic," but called for caution because of the multiple mutants of the virus.

"Once the Omicron wave has receded, there will be general immunity for a few weeks or months, either because of vaccines or because people will be immune to post-infection immunity," the WHO regional director in Europe added.
