According to one media source, today 2 million new corona virus infections were recorded in just the first week of 2022 in the world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that the spread of the omicron mutant of the corona virus is due, among other factors, to mutations carried by the mutant.

The world's nations have recently recorded large numbers of infections in the new mutant outbreak.

Maria van Kerkoff, head of the technical team at the WHO Emergency Diseases Unit, said that people should avoid exposing themselves to the virus and try to control transmission, and after a week of record casualties.

Van Kerkoff asserted that Omicron is spreading very rapidly among people for several reasons, first of all mutations carried by the mutant, which allow it to attach to human cells more easily.

The health officer continued that another reason was that we were witnessing an increase of omicron in the upper respiratory system, which was different from delta and other mutants, adding that the spread of the virus was driven by increased intermingling of people, more time spent in closed areas in winter in the northern hemisphere, and a lack of commitment to preventive measures such as physical dispersion.
