The French Minister of Health, Olivier Ferrand, stated that France had revoked its application to purchase an anti - corona drug, "Molnoperavier," from Merck due to poor trial performance, and ordered the purchase of paxlovid from Pfizer instead.
Ferran stated: We had to cancel the deal to buy Molnoperavier, explaining that the results of the recent trial of Merck's treatment are not good.
Instead of Merck's pills, France ordered paxlovide from Faiz, which Ferran described as "very promising" in reducing the risk of developing serious corona symptoms.
The Minister said the drug, which is awaiting approval by the European Medicines Agency, will be available by the end of January, and did not specify how many paxlofide doses have been ordered.
Earlier, Merck reported that its pills reduced the risk of recovery and mortality by 30%, less impressive than the 89% reduction reported by Pfizer.
