The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Gebresos, today announced a negative development in the effectiveness of new corona vaccines.
The Director - General of the World Health Organization (WHO), on the social media site Twitter, said that emerging evidence shows a slight decrease in the effectiveness of vaccines against acute corona infections and deaths and a decrease in the prevention of mild disease or HIV infection.
GIBRESOS added that the emergence of the Omicron mutant had led many countries to resort to enhanced doses of Corona vaccines for their entire population, noting that the organization was still looking for evidence of the efficacy of booster doses against the Omicron mutant.
Maria van Kerkoff, head of the technical team of the WHO Emergency Diseases Unit, said today that the world is facing a tsunami of corona virus infections, adding: "I think we're facing a tsunami of infection in the world, both with the Delta strain and with the Omicron mutant."
Governments urged States "not to wait to do what is necessary," adding: "We need to end the epidemic, we need to reduce the spread of the virus to a low level, avoid severe diseases through vaccinations and ensure timely treatment, 2022 must be the time we do so."
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Gebresos, announced earlier in the day that the new mutant of the corona virus "Omicron" is spreading at an unprecedented pace from any other mutant, noting that 77 countries have reported that it has been infected so far and may be in most of the country.
"We are concerned that people reject Omicron as mild and light. We have now learned that we are underestimating this virus on our responsibility. "
He warned: "Even if Omicron causes a less serious infection, the sheer number of injuries could once again overwhelm the ill - prepared health systems."
He continued: "I need to be very clear. Vaccines alone will not get any country out of this crisis, so the spread of Omicron must be prevented through daily preventive measures and actions."
