Researchers at Nference, a data analytics firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States, analysed the medical information received on omicron and its genetic sequence, finding an excerpt from the genetic code that is also found in a virus that causes cold.

Because "he picked up genetic material from another virus that causes cold drops in humans," a new study believes that the mutant of the new corona virus, omicron, is likely to be more widespread.

The researchers said that omicron can expose the infected to SARS-CoV- 2 as well as to HCoV- 229 E, which usually causes cold drops.

She continued: "Much of the data remains vague about Omicron, which makes health experts worried about its seriousness."

Researchers say that developments in the virus, which make it "more accessible," generally lose it the characteristics that make it "more dangerous."

The preliminary study is still in print and has not yet been peer reviewed.
