In line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterich, has today renewed his call for a

global vaccination plan against the new corona virus (COFID- 19), aimed at boosting production and reaching millions over the coming months, stressing that the world has effective vaccines and can end the pandemic.

In the same vein, he said during his speech at the Virtual World Summit on Covid-19 hosted by Joe Biden.

The President of the United States, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stressed that this move on vaccines was not a charity but a self-interest.

"Global health security has failed so far, bringing the number of victims to 4.5 million, and the number is increasing," Guterich noted."We have effective vaccines against COFID-19 and we can end the pandemic," he said. Among the more than 5.7 million doses given worldwide, 73 percent went to only 10 countries, while only 3 percent of Africa's population received vaccination.

Guterich expressed the hope that the American summit would be a step in the direction of the global vaccination plan, and called for at least double vaccine production to ensure equitable distribution of 2.3 billion doses through the initiative. KOUFAX Vaccine Solidarity, aiming to vaccinate up to 40 per cent of the world's population by the end of this year, and 70 per cent in the first half of 2022, in accordance with WHO targets.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations said that the plan could be implemented by an emergency team working with pharmaceutical companies to double vaccine production and ensure equitable distribution, with members including vaccine-producing countries with productive potential, WHO, COFAX partners, international financial institutions and WTO.
