In revealing the relationship between obesity and increased risk of COFID-19. The World Obesity Federation said hundreds of thousands of Covid-19 deaths could be avoided if the problem of obesity was addressed.
According to a report by the World Obesity Federation (WFU), about 9 out of 10 Kovd-19 deaths occurred in countries with high obesity rates, including the United Kingdom, which has the third highest corona pandemic mortality rate in the world and the fourth highest obesity rate.
In his report examining obesity rates in countries around the world as well as COFID-19 mortality, the mortality rate is 10 times higher in countries where 50% or more of the population is overweight.
The report's authors said 2.2 million of the 2.5 million deaths worldwide were in countries with high levels of obesity, noting that countries with low levels of obesity did not have high mortality rates, but that other factors could play their part.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that the report should serve as a "wake-up call" for Governments to address their obesity problems.
