Starting next month, special licenses will be imposed for the export of gallium and germanium from China, which is the largest producer For these two metals in the world.

The move follows Washington's efforts to limit China's access to some modern microcomputer processors.

The announcement came just days before the visit of US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, to Beijing, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said

The restrictions are necessary "to protect national security and national interests".

These two silver-colored metals are used in semiconductors, communications and military equipment. They are also essential materials in

Manufacture of some products such as solar panels.

Semiconductors are the component responsible for the operation of all electronic equipment, from mobile phones to hardware

Military, which is the focus of a bitter dispute between the two largest economies in the world.

The United States has taken steps to restrict China's access to technology that it fears could be used for

Military, such as chips used in supercomputing and artificial intelligence.

In October, Washington announced that it would impose licenses on companies exporting chips, which use tools

Or American programs, to China, regardless of where they are made in the world and have been joined in this by other countries including

The Netherlands and Japan, and the Netherlands announced last week that they will restrict the export of some semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

This followed plans to restrict its exports of the "most advanced" microchip technology, which the Netherlands announced in

Earlier this year.

These actions and controls are expected to affect the Dutch chip equipment manufacturer ASML, a player

A key player in the global chip supply chain.

Meanwhile, Japan plans to restrict some of its exports from the manufacture of computer chips.

The measures, announced in March, are expected to affect 23 types of semi-automatic manufacturing equipment

Conductors.

China has often accused the United States of trying to impose "technological hegemony", in response to its export controls

Washington.

In recent months, Beijing has imposed restrictions on US companies associated with the US military, such as the airline

Lockheed Martin.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who is due to travel to China on a four-day visit, warned

As of Thursday, economic relations between Washington and Beijing have been severed.

In a speech to Congress last month, she said, " I believe that we and China gain as much from open trade and investment as

If possible, our attempt to separate commercially from China will be disastrous,"he said.

Yellen is the second senior U.S. official to visit China this year.

In June, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at

Beijing, to resume high-level contacts between the two rival superpowers.
