Tesla and Ford announced Thursday that starting next year, Tesla's high-speed charging network in the United States and Canada will be open to Ford electric vehicles, in a move that will double the number of charging stations available to Ford customers.

“From the beginning of 2024, all current and future Ford customers will have access to 12 thousand Tesla Superchargers,”Ford President Jim Farley said in a conversation on Twitter with Tesla president Elon Musk.

Farley did not explain how much it will cost to use these chargers by Ford car owners, saying only that the group will do everything possible to make the prices acceptable and “as competitive as possible”.

As for the price of the adapter that Ford car owners have to buy to be able to charge their cars at Tesla terminals, Musk said that the price of this adapter should be “on the order of a few hundred dollars”.

Ford currently has a network of about 10 thousand fast charging stations for its electric vehicles.

Starting in 2025, Ford's new electric cars will be equipped with a connector that can be used directly at Tesla terminals without the need for an adapter.

In February, the White House announced that it had concluded an agreement with Tesla under which, by the end of 2024, the company would open its network of charging stations to electric cars of other brands.

In fact, the shortage of charging stations in the United States is a major obstacle to the transition of drivers of fuel-powered cars to electric cars.
