Deputy Minister of Finance of South Africa, Mondli Gungubele declared on Wednesday that his country will host the World BRICS 2023 in late August.

This year's summit will be held under the theme: "BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism," according to the minister.

The BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. South Africa assumed the BRICS chairship on Jan. 1, 2023, taking over from China.

BRIC is a grouping acronym referring to the developing countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, which are identified as rising economic powers. It is typically rendered as "the BRIC countries, the economic potential of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, they will become among the four most dominant economies by 2050.
