With the aim of doubling the size of the economy of the wealthy Gulf emirate over the next ten years, the emirate of Dubai announced the launch of an economic plan worth 32 trillion UAE dirhams (8,7 trillion dollars)

The Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the Dubai economic agenda "D33", which includes 100 future transformation projects.

The plan includes doubling the volume of Dubai's foreign trade to reach 25.6 trillion dirhams (6.9 trillion dollars) by 2033, and attracting foreign direct investment exceeding 700 billion dirhams in ten years.

"Our goal is to double the size of Dubai's economy over the next decade and be among the top 3 economic cities in the world,"Sheikh Mohammed wrote on Twitter.

"2033 is the year when Dubai, God willing, will be the most important global economic center,"he added.

The economy of the emirate of Dubai witnessed a growth of 4.6% during the first nine months of 2022, with a total value of 307.5 billion dirhams, according to figures issued by the government of Dubai Media Office.

The International Monetary Fund confirmed last November that the UAE's economy recorded "tremendous growth" in 2022.

At the time, the IMF expected the GDP growth rate to rise to "more than 6% in 2022, compared to 3.8% in 2021".
