Since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, the "Twitter" network has been suffering from a severe hemorrhage in the number of its active users
This was revealed by an internal document of Twitter, titled "Where did the tweeters go?"The "heavy tweeters," which the document defines as someone who opens Twitter almost every day and posts content three or four times a week, and they represent the users who create 90 percent of all posts that access the service even though they represent less than 10 percent of its monthly users, have been in "absolute decline" on the platform since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
Although the document did not provide a reason for the decline in the activity of these active users, but this may be related to the battle waged by "Twitter" with the American businessman Elon Musk, who finally concluded a deal to acquire the platform worth 44 billion dollars, after a months-long delay and reached the courts to withdraw from the deal for allegedly being misled about the number of fake accounts on the platform.
According to the "Digital Trends" technical website, Musk plans to lay off about three-quarters of Twitter's workforce, a move that will leave only 2,000 people to manage the operation for about 238 million daily users around the world.
The document also notes, that the type of content liked by "heavy speakers", has also changed, revealing that these users seem to be moving away from traditionally popular topics such as news, sports and entertainment in favor of cryptocurrency and pornography.
It is likely that this change negatively affects the volume of ads that reach Twitter, and therefore on its profits, as "such a shift has the potential to narrow the field of advertisers wishing to associate themselves with such content, which may affect the final incomes of the platform".
Perhaps in the future, "Twitter" will witness an even greater decline in the activity of its solid mass of users, which will gradually lead to a decrease in the number of hours that users generally spend on the platform, reduce the volume of advertising and then further financial losses.
