Biden added during his opening of a semiconductor factory site in Ohio on Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden said that the manufacture of semiconductors within the country is a
matter of "national security" for the United States, and Biden added that the manufacture of such high-progress electronic components is critical for America, especially given the current high competition with China, in his words.
Biden said in the region, which Intel plans to invest a whopping $20 billion to build its plant, that boosting investments in semiconductors is in the interest of the U.S. economy "and in the interest of our national security."
After Biden praised the latest legislation, which was adopted on his own initiative last August, and allowed $52 billion in subsidies to revive semiconductor production within America, the U.S. president noted that the measure was part of a major economic rivalry between China and the United States.
The US president said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had vigorously tried to rally the US business community against the law to support semiconductor production.
The 79-year-old Democrat confirmed that the United States will need advanced electronic components for future weapons systems, which will increasingly rely on electronic chips.
"Unfortunately, we are not currently producing any of America's sophisticated semiconductors today," Biden added.
The US president's visit took a clear electoral stamp, with the November midterm elections looming.
