Europe's gas futures have increased significantly in recent days, and jumped sharply, setting a new record of "$2190.4" per 1,000 cubic meters.

The British Financial Times reports that ships of liquefied natural gas bound for Asia are changing course to Europe, where gas prices are rising dramatically.

The newspaper reported: "Liquefied natural gas tankers heading to Asia change course halfway to provide European consumers ready to pay more as prices peak there."

At the close of the trading session, the price fell to approximately $2100, still 22% higher than the annual rate.

Kiaran Rowe, Global Director of Liquefied Natural Gas Works at Platts, told the newspaper: "The European gas market is out of control now."

The difference between European and Asian prices is currently the largest ever, with immediate deliveries of liquefied natural gas to Europe estimated at $48.5 per million British thermal units, compared to $41 per million British thermal units in Asia.
