According to a source, the Bank of Russia is talking to investors and market experts about a ban on cryptocurrency transactions. One source suggested that the ban may be

applied to new purchases of cryptocurrency assets but not to previous transactions, while another source states that the central bank fully rejects all cryptocurrencies.

The First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Russia reported earlier this month that the growing popularity of crypto-currencies raises concerns about financial stability.

According to the Central Bank, the annual volume of cryptocurrency transactions by Russian citizens is $5 billion.

In a financial stability audit released last month, the regulator said that Russians were among the world's most active participants in the cryptocurrency market, and in October, Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said there were no plans to ban the purchase of cryptocurrencies abroad or the use of cryptocurrencies abroad.
