In recent years, the Egyptian state has been developing ports according to global standards, transforming them into environmentally sensitive "green ports" using renewable energy sources.

These ports are characterized by technology that reduces pollution, to improve environmental performance and to eliminate any serious environmental impacts.

The Egyptian Council of Ministers Information Centre had confirmed that the Egyptian Maritime Transport Strategy 2030 was aimed at lifting the International Classification of Egyptian Seaports and turning them into green ports using renewable energy sources.

During his inspection of a number of projects at the port of Alexandria earlier, the Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel Al-Mudad, had indicated that Egypt aimed to become a regional, African and global logistics hub to serve the movement of environmental trade and to provide services to keep pace with recent global trends in shipping and logistics.

He also noted that the Ministry "attaches great importance to the conversion of Egyptian ports into green ports, as directed by the President of Egypt, and that the conversion of the port of Alexandria into an environmentally friendly green port falls within this framework."

Solar, electrical and wind energy will be optimized in green ports, meaning the most comprehensive use of renewable energy sources, with all formal procedures and standards applied globally. "
