Following India & apos energy crisis, I asked Qatar to act urgently to send the required natural gas shipments, according to several media outlets.

In the same vein, India has formally sent its request for the delivery of deferred shipments of gas by Doha, as it has experienced its worst energy crisis in five years.

One agency reported that New Delhi had asked Doha to speed up the delivery of 58 deferred shipments of liquefied natural gas, and sources said that maintenance of the infrastructure of Qatar Gas, the liquefied natural gas supplier, had prevented 50 shipments of liquefied natural gas from being delivered to India this year.

The sources added that the Indian Ministry of Oil had ordered 8 shipments that it had previously requested to postpone last year after closures linked to the Cofid-19 pandemic had reduced demand for liquefied natural gas.

India has suffered the worst electricity shortage since March 2016 due to a severe coal shortage amid rising global energy prices. The country, the third largest economy in Asia, is in a state of concern with rising energy prices. One site reported that the crisis forced the Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab and Rajasthan regions to report the depletion of their coal reserves and threatened a power outage crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the situation at a meeting with senior officials of the Ministries of Coal and Energy on October 12.

The situation is said to be so serious that Delhi's Minister of Energy Satindra Jain told the media that the national capital would face total disruption if power plants did not receive an immediate supply of coal.

In fact, at some point, India's thermal power plants had an average of four days of remaining coal stocks against the recommended level of 15-30 days, with more than half of the country's 135 coal-fired power plants reportedly containing less fuel stocks.
