Consumer prices in the United States recorded the largest increase in about 12 years last April.
The U.S. Department of Labor said the overall consumer price index jumped 0.8 percent last month, the largest increase since June 2009, after rising 0.6 percent last March.
Survey economists had expected the index to rise 0.2 percent last April.
On an annual basis, the consumer price index jumped 4.2 percent in the 12 months to the end of last April, the largest increase since September 2008.
