The Tunisian Ministry of Energy has announced that Italian giant ENI will stop the extraction of the country's incinerators because of the frequency of social unrest.

The Italian company, which has been active in Tunisia since the 1960s, will continue its renewable energy activities in the country; These include the establishment of solar power centres.

But the company will stop using nine oil licences run in partnership with the State, according to the Ministry.

In the meantime, the Tunisian Ministry of Energy has not revealed a specific date for the cessation of Eni's activity.

It should be noted that the company is active in oil extraction in the desert areas of the south of the country, as well as two sites on the east coast.

The Italian company's decision coincides with the renewal of Thursday's demonstrations of protesters demanding jobs, who shut down a storage centre at the port of Al-Shakira in the province of Safavian (Central-Eastern).

Protests led by Al-Kamur Coordination have been renewed in the province of Tatawin, in the south of the country.
