Egypt has demonstrated remarkable excellence in aromatic exports to more than one African country in recent years, pulling the rug from under the feet of Paris, which is notorious for its control of the perfume market in Africa.
Paris, on the throne of fashion and fashion-related industries and at the heart of the "aromatic industries," has always sprung to its grace, and has always smelled on body and clothing, but Egypt has taken that place in several African countries.
The year 2019 saw Egypt's aromatic exports surpass "French products" in more than one African country, according to a recent report by the Egyptian Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Egypt topped the top of aromatic exports in Algeria, Tunisia and Burkina Faso, while Côte d'Ivoire and Ethiopia were second.
"Vintage, jasmine and rye" oils are the most important aromatic oils produced by Egypt.
Egypt's exports of "aromatic mixtures," and other aromatic preparations, are second in total exports to the "brunette continent," valued at $203.37 million during 2019.
Egyptian statistics show that France has fallen to second place after Egypt from the aromatic exports of Algeria and Tunisia, while it is first in Côte d'Ivoire and fifth in Burkina Faso.
According to a previous report by the General Information Commission of the Egyptian Presidency, Egypt ranks fourth globally in total exports of aromatic and medical oils.
According to Egyptian government sources, Egypt's aromatic exports to Africa jumped from about $17 million in 2011, to $203 million in 2019.
