On Sunday evening, a huge protest turned into a confrontation with the police, which ended with the details of 35 and injured ten of the protesters.
The violent protest at the site of a new police training center, police said.

Orange flames rose from a construction tractor and at least four other fires burned in and around the fenced site as people in black swarmed on both sides of the barricade before squad cars and armed officers arrived, surveillance videos released by the Atlanta Police Department show.

The Atlanta Police Department described “a group of violent agitators” who “used the cover of a peaceful protest” to clash with authorities in “a coordinated attack on construction equipment and police officers.”

They changed into black clothing and entered the construction area and began to throw large rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks at police officers. The agitators destroyed multiple pieces of construction equipment by fire and vandalism,” police said.
The scrap came at the start of what protesters are calling a weeklong “mass mobilization” at the forested site slated to host the $90 million, 85-acre law enforcement facility that opponents say would propagate police militarization and harm the environment.

Thirty-five were arrested, and police said Sunday night that detentions were ongoing. Officials didn’t specify how many of those detained were also arrested or what charges were brought.
Protests have been ongoing over the proposed Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, which activists have dubbed “Cop City” and would reportedly include a “mock village” for cops to practice raids.
Atlanta Police Department chief Darin Schierbaum told the press. “This was not a protest, this was criminal activity.”

“Appropriate charges” are being coordinated with DeKalb County prosecutors and the Georgia Attorney General’s office, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said Sunday in a news conference, adding some detained are not from Atlanta and no officers were hurt.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) released a statement saying that “domestic terrorism will NOT be tolerated in this state.”
