Zelenskyy: Trump will increase the export of American LNG
In a statement Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, directed at Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, his rejection to the issue of energy prices from Russia and its fact amounts. He emphasized that purchasing gas from Russia costs nations not only money but also their sovereignty, according to the Ukrainian president’s Telegram channel.
In a public address to the Slovak Prime Minister, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the possibility for European countries to purchase gas from the United States without the risk of becoming politically dependent on the state supplying the energy.
“To the attention of the current Prime Minister of Slovakia: a few days ago, President Trump (US President Donald Trump) made a strong decision that will significantly increase the export of American LNG (liquefied natural gas), including to Europe. This is exactly what is needed for security and stability – more energy resources from partners for Europe,” the president’s statement reads.
Zelenskyy emphasized that while American liquefied natural gas requires payment in money, Russian gas costs not only money but also independence and sovereignty.
“Many in Europe have gone through this and chosen to preserve their independence and sovereignty. But not Mr. Fico. He chooses Moscow over America and other partners who can provide his country with gas on commercial terms,” said Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.
In Zelenskyy’s view, this is a mistake on the part of the Slovak Prime Minister.
“Everyone in Europe needs to be far-sighted and develop relations that strengthen our peoples,” the president concluded in his statement.
It should be noted that Zelenskyy’s address to Fico was, in essence, a response to the harsh remarks made by the Slovak Prime Minister about the Ukrainian president.
What did Fico say about Zelenskyy
In his remarks on January 28, Prime Minister Fico claimed that Zelenskyy was hurting Slovakia and that he was, allegedly, an enemy to the country. This statement was prompted by the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory at the beginning of this year.
Moreover, the Slovak Prime Minister expressed dissatisfaction with President Zelenskyy’s proposal to start gas transit from Azerbaijan to Europe.
During a meeting of the parliamentary economic committee, Fico once again threatened to block a decision on Slovakia’s assistance to Ukraine.
