Sources on the Tunisian island of Djerba, which is witnessing celebrations in a synagogue today, Tuesday, announced that gunfire was fired on the outskirts of the island.

   Tunisian media quoted eyewitnesses in the Tunisian city of Djerba as saying that they heard gunfire near a synagogue while pilgrims visited the site. An exchange of fire is taking place in the port of Djerba after a security officer was found dead and his weapon was missing.

Local radio Mosaique reported that a policeman was found dead in the port center in Djerba, and that gunfire was heard.
On Monday, the Tunisian island of Djerba began the official rituals of the Jewish pilgrimage season to the Ghriba Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in North Africa, amid great turnout from Tunisia and abroad and official participation.

Jews from all over the world flock to Djerba for pilgrimage to the temple, which dates back more than 2,500 years ago. It is also an important tourist attraction and contains one of the oldest copies of the Torah.

There is no immediately clear official information from the Tunisian Interior  Ministry on the source of the shooting.
