Washington and Lee University Athletics Kicks Off 2025-26 Season with Six Teams on the Road

The Washington and Lee University athletics programs launched the 2025-26 campaign today with a full slate of road action, as six teams opened their seasons away from home. The day was filled with a variety of sports, including men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, and field hockey, as the Generals began their quest for conference and national success. The busy start to the new academic year’s sports calendar saw the W&L teams travel across the region for their first taste of competition.

The W&L athletics season kicked off with the Generals’ men’s soccer team facing a tough test on the road against Emory University, falling 1-0 in a closely contested match. Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team had a more successful outing, earning a 3-0 victory against York College (Pa.). The W&L volleyball team was particularly impressive, sweeping both their opening matches of the season with a 3-0 win over Asbury University and a second win against Wilmington College.

The fall sports season is now fully underway for Washington and Lee. The field hockey team also started its season on the road against Johns Hopkins, while the men’s and women’s cross-country teams were also in action at the Eye Opener and Eagles Cross Country Challenge, respectively. The start to the season saw a mix of results for the Generals, but the packed schedule is a sign of the excitement and competition to come.
