Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Friday that China is ready to work with Japan to advance the mutually beneficial strategic relationship in a comprehensive manner consistent with the principles and consensus set out in the four China-Japan policy documents.
Wang, who is also a member of the political bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said this in his meeting with Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary.
Noting that China and Japan have resumed the process of improving bilateral relations, Wang said that the four political documents between the two sides laid the political and legal basis for China-Japan relations, including rules that defined the proper handling of historical issues and the Taiwan question.

China expressed hope that Japan would reach a correct understanding of China, fulfil its promises on key issues related to principles, stop interfering, and support the sound and steady development of China-Japan relations on the right track.
For his part, Hayashi said that Japan’s position on the Taiwan issue, based on the 1972 China-Japan Joint Statement, has not changed.
He said that Japan is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, and looks forward to achieving fruitful results in the high-level China-Japan economic dialogue held after a six-year hiatus, in order to contribute to the sustainable development of Japan-China relations and achieve greater benefits for the two peoples.
