The head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Girasimov, said that in the past two years, some 60,000 "Damascus" militants have been eliminated, including more than 2,800 Russians.

In a press statement on Tuesday, Gerasimov said that the number of "Da'ash" forces in Syria on September 30, 2015 was around 59,000 and that in the past two years the organization's units had recruited about 10,000.

He pointed out that most of the militants "Daash" fled after their defeat in Syria to Libya and Southwest Asian countries, did not rule out that some terrorists infiltrate into Afghanistan, where there is "fertile soil" for them.
