Seconds after she performed a noble job, a policewoman in the US state of California died in a terrible way, as a car hit her after she helped an old woman cross the street.

"Fox News", quoting a Los Angeles police officer, Alex Villanueva, said that the accident occurred on Sunday at about 11 am, and resulted in the death of policeman Amber List, outside of working hours.

The source added that the 41-year-old policewoman was in her car when she glimpsed an elderly woman falling down the street in the street, which made her get out of her vehicle to help her.

When she provided the necessary assistance and was returning to her car, she was surprised by a vehicle that hit her without warning.

She was not rushed to hospital, but died of a serious injury.

"Fox News" revealed that the driver did not escape, but rather tried to provide the necessary assistance to the investigators.

"Today the Los Angeles County Department is sad. We are shocked by the sudden loss of a member of our family," Villanueva told a news conference.

He continued: "She left behind no family and two sons, one of whom is currently working in the Navy. We want her family to know that we will always be at her service."
