As kind of follow up with continuous observation by Egypt and AlAzhar Alsherief of the sorrow massacres against Rohiga Muslim who are facing public violence in Miyanmar,Egypt called today for an emergency meeting to be hold on today.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid stated that upon Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry’s directives to the Egyptian delegation to the Security Council, Egypt called on the Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on September 13th to discuss developments of Myanmar’s Rohingya crisis, with the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation on the ground since August 25th.
Abu Zeid explained that both Sweden and Britain joined Egypt in requesting the meeting, also backed by the delegations of Kazakhstan and Senegal to the Security Council, as being members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
He added that during the UN Secretary-General’s Remarks to the Security Council on September 12th, Egypt highlighted the need for the UNSC to convene urgently to seek putting an end to the bloodshed and to stop the violence and displacement in the Rakhine State, in order to reach a just solution including granting the Rohingya minority their legitimate rights, thus to ensure their security, safety, and return to their homes, and facilitate access of humanitarian assistance to them.
Egypt delegation also affirmed that it would spare no effort within all forums, mainly the Security Council, to mobilize the international community and urge it to assume its moral duty vis-à-vis the Rohingya Muslims, so as to prevent the aggravation of such crisis which constitutes a threat to international peace and security.
