Despite major protests in France following Emmanuel Macron's decision to raise fuel prices to curb the consumption of cars in his climate defense plan,as well despite the storming of the crowded with yellow jackets who oppose the government's recent decisions,France will close 14 of its 58 existing nuclear reactors by 2035, and four to six of them will be shut down by 2030, French President Emmanuel Macaron said on Tuesday.

In a speech presenting France's energy policies in the coming years, Macaron said that "reducing the role of nuclear energy does not mean abandoning it"

The French president said he was aware of the growing anger over the increase in fuel taxes, expressed by tens of thousands of citizens through 10 days of protests under the so-called "yellow jackets,".

Macron pointed out that he would not back down on environmental protection policies.

"What I have understood from the last few days is that we do not have to change our course because it is the right track," he said.

However, in a gesture to the protesters, he said that the fuel surcharge will be adjusted taking into account the rise in oil prices in world markets, so that consumers will not bear it.
