Tajikistan border guards have confirmed the elimination of 15 militants as a result of their forces' response to an attack on a border crossing with Uzbekistan.
The Information Office of the Border Guard Department of the Tajik National Security Committee, in an interview with the "Novosti" Russian on Wednesday, that 20 masked gunmen attacked the crossing last night, 60 km west of the capital Dushanbe, noting that a border guard soldier and a policeman were killed in an exchange Bullets with gunmen.
Border guards said his forces were able to cordon off the gunmen, eliminate 15 of them and capture the other five. A team of investigators is currently working at the scene.
For his part, a spokesman for the Uzbek border guards told the Russian agency that "Tashkent is aware of the incident and is still communicating with the Tajik colleagues about it."
It is noteworthy that the length of the border between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan exceeds 1.3 thousand kilometers, and has not demarcated about 20% of them so far since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991.
