Nigerian star Ademola Lukman received the award of the best African Player of the year 2024, during the annual ceremony held by the African Football Confederation in Marrakech, on Monday evening.
Lukman had an exceptional season with the Nigeria national team, led him to the 2023 Africa Cup of nations, and also led his Italian club Atalanta to the “Europa League” title by scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen of Germany.
Lukman beat out 4 other finalists, namely Simon adingra (Cote d’ivoire), Ashraf Hakimi (Morocco), serhou guerassi (Guinea) and Ronwyn Williams (South Africa).
The Arab absence from the award continued, as the Egyptian Mohamed Salah was the last Arab to achieve the award, in 2018, that is, 6 years ago.

Libyan “Kaf” Moataz Ibrahim was awarded the best African referee award for 2024. Ibrahim managed the African Super Cup final between Al-Ahly and Zamalek, as well as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final meeting between Cote d’ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Moroccan duha Madani has won the award of the best young player in Africa for 2024.
The award for the best local African player was won by Moroccan Sana Masoudi, a player of the Royal Moroccan army.
