The Chinese Foreign Ministry has summoned the US ambassador to Beijing, Terry Branstad, to protest Washington's stance on the events in Hong Kong and to call for an end to its interference in China's internal affairs.
The move comes a day after US President Donald Trump signed a bill to support anti-government protesters in Hong Kong.
On Tuesday, Beijing summoned the US ambassador to protest the adoption of a bill to "protect human rights and democracy in Hong Kong."
Hong Kong has been protesting for more than five months against a bill allowing local authorities to extradite wanted men to Beijing.
