Belgium's Foreign Minister, Sophie Wilmes, has been infected with the emerging coronavirus, which causes the Covid-19 epidemic, at a time when the country is facing a second wave of infections with the Coronavirus that causes this disease.

The office of the Belgian Foreign Minister and the former Prime Minister said, today, Thursday, that Sophie was transferred to intensive care after suffering from the Covid-19 epidemic.

A spokesman for the Foreign Minister said that Sophie, aged 45, is fully conscious and in a stable condition, according to Reuters.

Last Saturday, Sophie said that tests confirmed that she was infected with the virus and that she most likely caught it from a relative and not from the workplace.

Alexander de Crowe, who took over as prime minister in early October, wrote on Twitter that he wished her a speedy recovery.

"No one is immune to this virus. Together, we will defeat Covid-19," De Crowe added.

It is noteworthy that the Belgian Minister of Health had described the current wave of Coronavirus infections as being more like a "tsunami", while Brussels decided to postpone all surgeries and unnecessary medical intervention.
