In an attack by terrorists, five Chadian soldiers were killed in the Lake Chad area, which in recent years has become an important stronghold of Boko Haram and ISIS.
In a Facebook post, the young general who has headed a military council leading the country since the death of his father, Idris Debbie Itno, in April 2021, wrote that "this new loss from a terrorist ambush by Boko Haram reminds us of the security challenges that terrorism poses and we still face."
The Nigerian Boko Haram and ISIS are active in West Africa (ISWAP), which has defected from it in the Lake Chad area (West), which consists of a vast area of water and swamps with small inhabited islands.
These groups, called "Boko Haram" by the Chadian authorities, regularly attack the army and civilians in the area.
Tuesday's attack took place in the town of Kayaga-Kin , some 150 kilometres north of the capital N'Djamena.
The President of Chad, whose army is fighting terrorists in the Sahel region as well as the French army, stressed that "the blood of our soldiers that has been shed will not be wasted. We will win this war over Boko Haram. "
In August, 26 soldiers were killed in a Boko Haram attack on an island in the lake, near Cameron.
