The Iranian "ISNA" agency said that Putin's special assistant will meet during his visit, today and tomorrow, Sunday, with Mohammad Mukhber, the first vice president of Iran, the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Admiral Ali Shamkhani, and the Iranian Minister of Roads and Cities Construction, Mehrdad Bozharbash.

And the "Noor News" agency, which is close to the Iranian National Security Council, reported that Putin's assistant will meet tomorrow, Sunday, with the Secretary of the Iranian National Security Council. The agency added that the talks between the two parties will focus on activating the "north-south" corridor for trade. The agency added that the two parties seek to complete the tracks of this corridor to complement other discussions in this regard last January during another visit of Putin's special assistant to Tehran.

The "North-South Corridor" is a giant international transport project, which was proposed during the European Union summit in the Finnish capital Helsinki in 1992 as the ninth corridor out of ten corridors, and then the three countries Iran, India, and Russia signed in 2000 the first document for its establishment in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2016, other countries joined the project:

the Sultanate of Oman, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Syria, and Bulgaria, in addition to the three founding countries.

This corridor consists of a network of sea, land, and railway lines with a length of 7,200 km, and starts from Bombay in India to connect the Indian Ocean and the Gulf region with the Caspian Sea, passing through Iran, and then heading to St. Petersburg, Russia, and from there to northern Europe, reaching the Finnish capital.

In a meeting in Tehran on Saturday, Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber and Igor Levitin, who serves as a special aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, also reviewed bilateral cooperation on energy and transportation projects as well as trade exchanges between the two countries.

“Fortunately, the implementation of joint projects between the two countries is being carried out in a good manner and the presidents of the two countries are seriously and continuously pursuing the projects to remove the barriers on their way and to speed them up,” said Mokhber during the meeting with Levitin.

Speaking during the meeting, Mokhber said that Iran and Russia can be turned into

major hubs for exporting food products in the region through the implementation of joint investment projects between the two countries.

Levitin, for his part, voiced Russia’s readiness to commit to joint transit projects with Iran that can activate the INSTC, adding that Moscow is also willing to sign agreements with Tehran for engaging in bilateral and multilateral cooperation on such projects.
