Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree imposing sanctions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, 141 entities, and 300 individuals. The decree followed a proposal from the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
The decree also imposes sanctions on Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous and Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad. The duration of the sanctions is 10 years, and includes freezing assets, imposing restrictions on commercial operations, and suspending economic and financial obligations.
Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Syria in June after the latter recognized the areas occupied by Russia in eastern Ukraine.
On March 10, Zelensky imposed sanctions on 120 individuals - mostly Russian citizens - and 287 entities.
