A Nigerian athlete surprised everyone by winning a gold medal in taekwondo, during the country's biennial "National Sports Festival," despite being eight months pregnant.

According to the festival, 26-year-old Aminat Idris, who is eight months pregnant, won the Pomsey category in taekwondo, describing her achievement as "inspiring."

Idris said she was thrilled to be accomplished during the event in Nigeria's Edo state, adding: "It's a privilege for me. I just decided to try it after training a few times. It feels really good. "

On the nature of the training during pregnancy, she said: "Before I got pregnant, I always enjoyed training, so it wasn't different with pregnancy."

The Nigerian athlete was criticized on social media, despite her success, for participating while pregnant.

Idris responded to her critics by saying that many of them were "not familiar with the different forms of taekwondo." She continued: "A lot of people don't really understand what taekwondo's about. I feel like this is a way to educate people about this. There are two branches of taekwondo: Combat sports and non - combat sports known as Pomsey, a form of exercise, are just a display of hand and leg techniques in taekwondo. "

She pointed out that she participated in the Pomsey category, adding: "I felt that there weren't many risks associated with it, so I decided to try it, and my doctor and the organising body of the Games also confirmed that I was qualified to participate in the sport of non-friction."
